What is a Crochet Along?

Essentially, a crochet along is an online party for crocheters around the world!

We’ll all start and finish our French Press Cardis together, beginning with sourcing our yarn and ending with blocking and styling. The 6-week agenda looks like this:

  • Pre-Game, August 30th – September 9th: Choosing yarn and making a swatch.
  • Week 1, September 10th – 16th: Full pattern arrives in your inbox! Complete Part 1.
  • Week 2, September 17th – 23rd: Complete Part 2.
  • Week 3, September 24th – 30th: Complete Part 3.
  • Block Party, October 1st – 7th: Blocking and styling.

Through our private CAL email list and Facebook group, we’ll share progress, make friends, win prizes, and use exclusive discounts from our crochet along sponsors.

About the French Press Cardi

The coziness of fall will be here before you know it. For those weeks when tank tops and flip flops are out but it’s not quite cold enough for your heavy sweaters, the French Press Cardi can be your go-to piece. It’s lightweight, flexible, and you can style it a million different ways.

I’m excited to partner with indie dyer Ashley of Montana Crochet for this CAL for so many reasons. Besides being an amazing dyer who brings out-of-this-world depth to every skein of yarn she touches, Ashley is a truly warm and magnificent person. I couldn’t think of a better maker to co-host this CAL with!

FAQ’s

Can a beginner make the French Press Cardi?

Absolutely! I designed this pattern to be beginner-friendly. I’ll also have tutorial videos that release weekly with detailed clips of each section of the cardigan.

Is the pattern available for individual purchase?

Not yet! One of the perks of registering for the French Press CAL is getting access to the full French Press Cardi pattern weeks before the public. The finished pattern will be available for purchase on October 9th.

What kind of yarn do I need?

The original French Press Cardi uses an aran weight yarn from Montana Crochet. Aran is a slightly heavy worsted weight yarn that’s becoming increasingly easy to find. Ashley of Montana Crochet will have yarn kits available in each of the 3 sizes of the cardigan. The Welcome Video you access right after registration will also have some yarn substitution ideas.

Is a yarn kit from Montana Crochet required to participate?

Absolutely not! Ashley will have some gorgeous kits in awesome colors, but you don’t have to use her yarn to participate.

When does registration open?

Friday, August 30th, 9am ET.

When does the CAL start?

Friday, August 30th.

Are there a limited number of registrations?

No, ma’am! This CAL welcomes every crocheter of every level from anywhere. Whether this is your first CAL or your 99th, we’d love to have you.

How much is registration?

Registration for the CAL is $19 and opens on Friday, August 30th. Registration will take place on TLYarnCrafts.com via a product listing. After purchase, participants will receive a PDF with info just for CAL participants, including the full list of sponsors, prizes, details on giveaways, and a very enthusiastic welcome video from yours truly πŸ™‚

I’ve never had to pay for a CAL. What gives?

If you know me at all, you know that I firmly believe everyone’s time is valuable. Unlike some CALs that are sponsored by yarn or craft companies that pay designers, I am running the French Press CAL without monetary sponsorship. I needed to take that into account, especially considering how AMAZING I wanted this CAL to be. Between planning, multiple blog posts, promotional and educational videos, sponsor recruitment, graphic design, and all the other elements I’ve been so intentional about when it comes to this CAL, please know that the registration fee was thoughtfully calculated. Investment in this CAL gives me the chance to host free CALs in the future and to continue producing content for my platforms.

Do I have to be on Facebook to participate?

Nope! The FB group will just be a fun place to share progress and ask questions. As long as you’re on the CAL email list, you’ll get all of the important announcements and video tutorials weekly throughout the CAL.

Will there be a discount for Cozy Club email list subscribers?

You’ll have to sign up and see! *wink wink*

I am so excited, I signed up for a previous cal that you hosted. Due to my husband being so sick I was not able to crochet along with everyone. This one I will be and so happy. I love it and Ashley. So excited

Hello! I am very interested in the French Press CAL. I was just wondering if you could tell me how much the yarn will cost? I understand you will also advise regarding substitutions but I want to use your chosen yarn, therefore, wondering the price. Thank you

Hi Lynda! Thanks so much for your message! The yarn kits will be offered in three sizes direct from the yarn dyer. They will be available the day of registration on the dyer’s website with the set price. Since Ashley is setting the price herself, I don’t have that info right now.

I do, Kathy! Please find them below. All of the sizes are very generous in the bust, so you can play around with which measurements you go with based on the fit you’re looking for.

      β€’ Finished Bust: 40 (48, 56)”
