The Garden Party Shawl, a lightweight crochet triangle wrap

Garden Party

Dig out your best pearls and call your best friends – the Garden Party Shawl is here!

One thing I love about crochet is how it can transport you to another time. The definitive lines of the craft paired with modern colors and styling bring an entire look together. Now you can wear modern classic crochet in the form of a wrap with the Garden Party Shawl, designed in collaboration with Handmade Home Fibers.

One thing I’m always surprised to hear from crocheters is how nervous they are to work with fingering weight yarn. Widely used by knitters for socks, shawls, and sweaters, fingering weight yarn is so versatile and all the rage right now. I’ll admit, fingering weight yarn is rarely marketed to crocheters, but we don’t need anyone telling us what to buy, am I right?!

I went into designing the Garden Party Shawl with the same goal that I had when designing my popular Flatiron Shawl – make a piece that helps makers reframe how they think about crochet. It combines bold lines, simple stitches, and a cool technique borrowed from knitting for the border

A piece of advice: When you have the chance to collaborate with amazing friends, always say YES! I connected with my gal pal Ashleigh and her husband CJ who run Handmade Home Fibers about a possible design with their yarn and they were totally game. I sent them a couple of inspiration photos but was most drawn to this lovely bouquet:

I asked them to make the colors a little punchier and they nailed it! The resulting colors are Ohio Blooms (left) and Sunshine (right). To complete the Garden Party Shawl, you’ll need two skeins of your main color (Ohio Blooms) and one of your accent (Sunshine). A limited number of yarn kits will be available from Handmade Home Fibers on 8/9/2019 at 12noon, and once they’re gone, they’re gone!

SO beautiful. But I also need the lovely sunshine-colored dress to go with it! What a beautiful combination. You’ve done it again, Toni!
