Crochet My Favorite Things

TLYC Shawlalong 2019!

It’s true – I’ve been bitten by the crochet-along bug. Ever since my first CAL last year, I just can’t stop running them! And now that spring is here and the sun is shining, I think it’s about time for another. Please join me in my excitement for TLYC Shawlalong 2019, a casual community crochet-along!

What is a Crochet-Along?

Essentially, a crochet-along, or CAL, is an online party for makers from around the world! We’ll all work on our projects together and share them throughout the CAL event.

TLYC Shawlalong runs June 3rd – July 7th, but you can join in anytime. Pick your favorite free or paid TL Yarn Crafts shawl project and share your project on Instagram using the #TLYCShawlalong2019 hashtag to be entered into our CAL giveaway.

Giveaway, you say?

Now you know it wouldn’t be a TL Yarn Crafts CAL without prizes! I’ve teamed up with my new friends at Elevate Fibers to give away two skeins of their gorgeous hand-dyed yarn. The giveaway will run the entirety of the CAL and the winner will be announced on July 10th. All you have to do to enter is share your progress using #TLYCShawlalong2019 and follow @TLYarnCrafts and @ElevateFibers. That’s is! (Notes – you must have a public Instagram account for your posts to count toward the giveaway; giveaway is open worldwide.)

Exclusive Shawlalong Yarn Kits

In addition to the fun giveaway at the end of the CAL, the fabulous mother-daughter team at Elevate Fibers is offering exclusive kits for the Flatiron Shawl as part of TLYC Shawlalong 2019. The Flatiron Shawl was my very first fingering weight shawl pattern and is, by far, the most popular pattern I’ve ever released.

If you’re planning to make the Flatiron Shawl for the crochet-along, snag one of these kits:

Island Time, designed by Elevate Fibers. Includes the colorways Snorkeling, Corals, and Plumeria with Balmy as the miniskein for the border.

Beach House, designed by TL Yarn Crafts. Includes the colorways Breakwater Cove, Shipwreck, and Kelp Forest with Sea Urchin as the miniskein for the border.

Both kits will go on sale on the Elevate Fibers website on Friday, May 17th at 11am PST (2pm EST). Be sure to set your clocks – there will be a limited number of each kit available. And once they’re gone, THEY’RE GONE! If you do snag a kit, be sure to use code “SUMMERSCAPE” at checkout to save an additional 10% off.

What is the name of the shawl in the upper left corner in variegated and mint colorway? I think it is The Flatiron but wanted to be sure before the start of the Shawlalong. Thank you for your content and tutorials as they have given my confidence a boost with new techniques and stitches.

Hi Mary! You’re right – that’s the Flatiron Shawl. I love how different it looks with different yarns 🙂 I can’t remember what the color names are, but I know this sample was made with Malabrigo yarn.

Hi! I’m trying to get back into crocheting after many years away. My mother had only taught me granny squares back then and I’m seeing so many exciting designs. I would love to join the shawlalong. I think my skills are still in the novice area and I’ve been spending time getting reacquainted with some stitches. Which of your shawl patterns do you feel are the most beginner friendly? Thank you!

Hi Lorna! I’d love to have you join the Shawlalong to get re-acquainted with crochet! All of my shawl projects are pretty beginner-friendly. If you are more of a visual learner, the Ada, Flatiron, Daydream, Bronwyn, and Coles River projects all have tutorial videos. Let me know if you have other questions. I so hope you’ll join the CAL!

I’m joining the CAL and chose the Coles River Shawl pattern. I’m nervous and excited…my first CAL and first shawl. I have all my supplies and ready to get started on Monday.

I have a Coles River Kerchief WIP but I’ve had my eye on the Flatiron for quite awhile. Now I just need to decide on the yarn! Easier said than done, right? Can’t wait to see everybody’s choices!

Toni! I’m torn between the Adore Shawl and Coles River! Which one do you think is easiest for a fingering weight newbie? Thanks!

Hi Barbara! Those are both such great choices! I think the Coles River would be a great choice. It comes with a tutorial video and is really fun to watch work up 🙂
