2025 Mood Tracking Blanket: Four-Square Granny Stitch Crochet Pattern

2025 Mood Tracking Blanket: Four-Square Granny Stitch Crochet Pattern

Hey crochet besties – want to turn your daily moods into something snuggly? I’ve got the perfect project for 2025: a mood-tracking blanket that uses the addictive granny stitch to tell your story. Think of it as a diary you can actually curl up with, documenting your year one colorful row at a time!

You don’t need to be a crochet wizard to join in on this journey. Each day, you’ll add one row to your blanket, documenting whatever matters most to you – mood, weather, energy, you name it. By the end of the year, you’ll have the coziest memory album ever made (and the perfect excuse to crochet every single day)!

From Temperature Tracking to Moods

I fell head over heels for chronicle blankets back in 2019 when I made my first temperature blanket – you know, those magical projects that tell a story through yarn! While I’ve loved watching the seasons change through my stitches, I’m ready for a new crafty adventure. For 2025, I’m switching from tracking temperatures to capturing moods, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you! Join me for this fun project that we’ll begin on January 1st.

Constructing the Four-Square Granny Blanket

The Four-Square Granny Blanket pattern is now available – get the $2 pattern HERE! Add one row daily to your granny stitch squares until each square represents three months. After completing all four squares, seam them together, then add a border. It’s that simple! Since some quarters have more days than others, each square will have 92 rows:

  • Square 1: January – March 2025 (90 days, plus 2 extra rows)
  • Square 2: April – June 2025 (91 days, plus 1 extra row)
  • Square 3: July – September 2025 (92 days)
  • Square 4: October – December 2025 (92 days)

Arrange your squares in any order you like! I prefer a pinwheel orientation for a modern, funky look.

How about marking the first day of the month? I’m glad you asked! I’ll be adding a strand of mohair to the first of the month. You could also hold a strand of lace-weight cotton, wool, alpaca, or the fiber of your choice to make the first of the month stand out. Add WeCrochet’s Aloft Super Kid Mohair to your blanket – one ball should last you the full year! GET ALOFT HERE.

Journaling Your Moods

We all know journaling is great for mental health, but let’s be real – who has time to write pages of deep thoughts every day? That’s why I love this project’s built-in micro-journaling approach. Alongside each day’s stitching, make a bulleted list of 5 significant moments, feelings, or experiences that occurred during the day. You can include anecdotes with your list, or go all out and do a whole journal entry. I haven’t consistently kept a journal for years, and this is the perfect time to pick up a great habit.

Need a place to jot down those daily vibes alongside your stitches? My 2025 Journaling Notebooks are here to help, with beautiful cover art and 140 dot-grid pages ready for your thoughts! Keep it short and sweet to make one last all year, or treat yourself to a pair of notebooks if you’re the type who needs more room for your daily reflections (no judgment – some days just need extra pages)!

Picking the Perfect Yarn + Colors

To make this project as easy as possible, I’ve partnered with a yarn brand I love – WeCrochet. Their yarn selection is unmatched, and you can access some of the best yarns, fiber, tools, and notions at affordable prices. We’ll keep our blankets a manageable size by using fingering weight yarn, but not just any yarn. We’re using Stroll Tweed, a heathered lightweight wool blend with charming flecks of neutral-colored tweed that will breathe life into our granny stitch blankets.

Stroll Tweed comes in 30 magnificent colors and is machine washable. Build the palette of your choice, or choose one of 3 curated color kits:

1 // Sweet Vintage, a dreamy collection that embodies the soft, timeworn charm of grandmother’s attic treasures. This carefully curated palette blends gentle pastels (blush pink, powder blue, and seafoam green) with rich earth tones (olive, rust, and chocolate brown), all speckled with classic tweed flecks. Get your kit HERE.

2 // Earthy Rainbow, a bold twist on nature’s palette that celebrates color with a grounded spirit. Starting with vibrant red and rich burgundy, the collection flows through warm pumpkin and golden mustard, before dipping into mossy olive and oceanic teals. Get the kit HERE.

3 // Log Cabin, a sophisticated collection that captures the timeless charm of a mountain retreat. Perfect for makers of any gender, this pack’s rugged-yet-refined color story draws inspiration from natural materials like weathered wood, polished stone, and aged leather. Get your kit HERE.

You’re also welcome to bring your own yarns to the party. Be sure to swatch once the final pattern comes out on Monday, December 2nd, 2024.

Project Supplies

Aside from the yarn, there are only a few supplies you will need to complete your 2025 Mood Blanket:

Building your Mood List

Start preparing for your blanket by building a Mood List. This will be the collection of moods that you’ll assign your colors to. Choose as many moods as you like. I’m going with 12 total moods – 5 pleasant, 5 unpleasant, and 2 neutral. Try to strike a balance between the severity and pleasantness of your moods – we’re complex creatures and feel our feelings at different levels every day. You can even group your moods if you like!

Need some help getting started? Here’s my list of moods for 2025:

  1. Hopeful, optimistic, anticipatory
  2. Exhausted, fatigued, weary
  3. Strong, proud
  4. Excited, enthusiastic, fun, celebratory
  5. Stressed, anxious, chaotic
  6. Angry, frustrated, irritable
  7. Productive, creative, inspired
  8. Depressed, sad, down
  9. Calm, patient, relaxed
  10. Bored, apathetic, indifferent
  11. Loved, loving, accepted
  12. Content, happy, positive

There’s no right or wrong way to construct your list. Once you have it, assign your colors and you’re ready to start the year!
