Crochet My Favorite Things

Make It Crochet-Along 2020!

That transition from the holidays back to real life is no joke. So many makers are coming off of marathon craft show crocheting or making Christmas gifts. Now that the busy season is over, it’s time to start making just for yourself again!

Say hello to Make It CAL 2020, a no-stress crochet event for yarn lovers! Starting Tuesday, January 21st, casually crochet your favorite TLYC patterns for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

What is a Crochet-Along?

Essentially, a crochet along or CAL is an online maker party for crocheters around the world. We’ll all be working on projects at the same time and will share our progress on Instagram and Facebook. This will be the second Make It CAL and I can’t wait to get started!

This event runs January 21st – February 24th, but you can hop in anytime. Pick any free or paid TL Yarn Crafts pattern, share your progress on Instagram and/or Facebook, and be in the running for awesome prizes.

Prizes, You Say?

Well, it wouldn’t be a TL Yarn Crafts CAL without prizes, now would it? Here’s some info about our CAL sponsored prizes:

Week 1: Win a pair of snips from Warm Crochet. These are my personal favorites – I have a pair in every project bag!

Week 2: Our friends at Jimmy Beans Wool are putting together a mystery prize for two lucky winners. I wonder what it will be!

Week 3: One of my favorite indie dyers, Ashley of Montana Crochet is offering up TWO skeins of her gorgeous yarns to two lucky winners.

Week 4: Get your hands on my favorite set of Tunisian crochet hooks from Denise Interchangeables! Two winners will get to pick the set of their choice.

Week 5: Knit and crochet designer Teresa of DEBROSSE wrote the ultimate beginner crochet book last year. Get your hands on a copy in the Make It CAL giveaway!

How to Win

You have two chances to win the Make It CAL prize each week:

  • Instagram – Make sure you’re following @TLYarnCrafts and the prize sponsor. Then post your Make It CAL project and use the hashtag #MakeItCAL2020 – post as many times as you like for more entries. I’ll choose a winner each week from the hashtag and announce them in my stories. Only public accounts can be considered for the prize.
  • Facebook – Join the TLYCMakers Facebook group and post a photo of your Make It CAL progress as a comment on that week’s CAL update thread. I’ll choose a winner from the comments each week.

Let’s Get Ready to Crochet!

So, are you excited for Make It CAL 2020?! I know I am. And I can’t wait to see your progress. I’ll be making the Tunisian Crochet Shawl from my Crafter’s Box feature, and I’ll try to squeeze in an Odyssey Wrap, made from some yarn I treated myself to over the holidays 🙂

Sooooo excited for this! My first CAL! I think I’ll try making the Odyssey Wrap again. I tried last month and had some trouble with it, but that’s the fun of learning!

I live in a remote area in Montana, so I won’t be going to Joanne’s any time soon and I’m on a budget. I have some white Bernat Pipesqueak yarn. Do you have any suggestions for patterns I can use it with? I have lots of random yarn like one ball of Vanna’s choice. I also have a lot of Sugar’n cream cotton yarn Thanks for ;your help, I look forward to this.

Hi Kathi! I haven’t designed anything *specifically* for that type of yarn, but here are a few suggestions that might work: French Press Cardi, Josie Shawl, Ada Shawl, Sweater Weather Cardi (you’d need to make adjustments, as this project was written for a worsted weight yarn), Veronica Cardi. Hope that helps!

This event came at the perfect time! I’d already purchased the Mika Vest pattern and all the supplies to start on it after the Holiday bustle. Can’t wait! ❤

I’m in! Mulled cider cowl…kinda obsessed with Tunisian crochet. Just finished Ada XL shawl with some woolspun I had in my stash. It may not have quite the drape I wanted, but it is cozy and comfy. Love your designs❤️

So stoked to make the Sweater Weather Cardi – my first sweater (and Wool-Ease big bundles were in mega-sale too)! I’m wondering: will the contests will be open to Canadians?

I tried to join the FB group several days ago, I haven’t been approved yet. Does it take a week for it to go through?
