I’ve got a confession to make: I’m a crocheter that doesn’t love to make with 100% cotton yarn. It sounds weird, as crochet and cotton basically go hand in hand. But I’ve always been underwhelmed with the cotton selection at my local stores.

But then I got my hands on Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton, a 100% mercerized cotton. Boy oh boy, is this stuff dreamy. Even at a worsted weight, it’s still light and airy when mixed with the mesh stitches of the Sandbar Cardi.

I was so jazzed to work on the Sandbar Cardi in partnership with my friends at Lion Brand Yarns for their Cotton Must-Haves collection. It’s a set of 12 independently designed knit and crochet patterns made from cotton-based yarns. Sounds amazing, right? I had no idea what the other makers were working on until the full collection debuted on the Lion Brand website.

Each design is better than the next and I just can’t believe I was able to be part of it. Here are just a few of my favorites. Click the photo for more details on each knit and crochet kit.

Be sure to visit the Cotton Must-Haves page on Lion Brand’s website to browse the full collection of 12 patterns.

Hi! I ordered the kit (yay!) and am reading the directions before I start (for a change). Is there a video to show the transition from working on the front body to starting the back sleeve? The whole “opposite end of the yarn ball” step is blowing my mind; then again, I haven’t gotten to that point yet, so, maybe it’s easier than it seems. Thanks!!

Hi Jackie! Thanks for checking out the pattern. I’m so excited that you’re making it 🙂 I don’t have a video for this exact pattern, but my Summertime Tee is made similarly and should help clarify that step. Here a tutorial video covering the concept: CLICK HERE.

Oh, thank you! The video helps immensely. I wasn’t making the mental leap. What a neat technique! I’ve never made a top, so this is all new. Thank you!

I’m finally finishing up my second front panel and am almost ready to seam together. I’m a newbie with garments so my question is… what is the recommended (or best) way to seam it?
    Thank you so much!

Don’t know why but I am having trouble with the count on the first panel. I am working on a 3x size and the first few rows of the count is either too little or too much and I keep having to pull. I think I am misunderstanding the hdc1. I had no issues with the back panel. By the way, your finished work is absolutely beautiful and I am looking forward to the end product.
