Blog Post Cover Image (9)

Love crochet squares but you’re a little sick of the granny stitch? Try the Theo Blanket, a free crochet linen stitch baby blanket pattern that uses the linen stitch for a modern look!

This year has been the year of my linen stitch obsession. I’ve designed the Willow Sweater, Lo-Fi Cowl, and the Roxie Tank, all using this classic combination of single crochet stitches and chains. I’m excited to add yet another pattern to the lineup – the Theo Blanket. With endless color palettes to suit your fancy, you’ll make this fun and fast baby blanket again and again.

What is the Crochet Linen Stitch?

After you graduate from basic stitches like single and double crochet, it’s time to combine the basics into new and exciting stitch patterns. The Linen Stitch is an easy favorite for its simplicity and stunning presentation. It has the effect of being modern no matter the application.

When it comes to the Theo Blanket, I couldn’t give you the Linen Stitch in straight rows, of course. Instead, I started with a Linen Stitch Square, which is worked in the round. After a few rounds, I transition to rows, giving a playful nod to a mitered square. The finished linen stitch baby blanket has a cozy geometric quality that lends itself to endless moods.

Get To Know Wool of the Andes Tweed

I had the pleasure of working with WeCrochet to design the Theo Blanket. I’m very familiar with WeCrochet’s yarns, each one more lovely than the next. Even with so many options, I found myself drawn to Wool of the Andes Tweed (WotA Tweed) yet again.

Wool of the Andes Tweed is a toothy blend of Peruvian Highland Wool and Donegal tweed. Peruvian highland wool is known for it’s distinct wooly texture, strength, and warmth. Add in the beautiful flecks of Donegal tweed, and you have a versatile yarn that produces uniquely stunning pieces. This winning combination was perfect for my crochet linen stitch baby blanket.

The Theo Blanket is my second piece made with Wool of the Andes Tweed. The first is the Pilson Blanket. Though both items are baby blankets, they couldn’t be more different. The earthy, rustic nature of WotA Tweed emphasizes the features of these patterns differently. With 25+ color sto pick from, you can create a color palette to fit any room.

If you’re looking to indulge in other yarns from WeCrochet for your Theo Blanket, here are some recommendations:
