Hi, Toni, I just want you to know that your comments about what you are leaving in 2019 really struck a chord with me. 2019 was a really hard year for me. I resigned from a job that I loved, I tried to find a new job, I had surgery on my dominant hand followed by a staph infection in the incision, and have been struggling to bring myself out of depression from leaving my career field. I’m a librarian (see, I still consider myself that!) and also have an MPA (and I read somewhere that you do too!) and I just turned 63. In every job I interviewed for, I was rejected after a video interview or an onsite interview—I feel I am being discriminated against for my age (I have over 20 years of experience in librarianship plus a MLIS).

However, this is just a bit of background. Your IG feed was the first feed on crocheting that I discovered. So, after several job rejections, I thought I would up my crochet game and maybe, just maybe, turn it into a business. I struggle with comparing myself to others and this is something I am giving up for 2020 (and beyond!). I am working hard to refine my crochet and I am getting better. I haven’t designed anything yet and I might never do that and that’s ok.

I just want you to know that I appreciate your honesty and enthusiasm and talent. Maybe someday we will meet and I will indulge my inner fangirl! Looking forward to more good content in 2020–Happy New Year! ~ Linda

Hello darling Linda! Thank you for sharing your story with me. Crochet was always a lifeline in tough times for me, as it seems like it might be for you as well. I’d encourage you to keep pursuing your passion to return to being a librarian. I’m a firm believer that certain doors close for a reason. My prayers and well wishes are with you for a happy 2020!
