Blog Post Cover Image (19)

Do you hear sleigh bells and a crackling fire? It’s finally Christmas time! And that means it’s crunch time to make those handmade gifts. Never fear! TL Yarn Crafts is here with the perfect present – and it’s FREE!

There’s nothing quite like the holidays to bring the crafter out in all of us. Whether you knit or crochet, my good friend Marly Bird is keeping you inspired all season long. She’s working with dozens of designers to bring you FREE pattern downloads as part of her 24 Days of Quickies.

From December 1st to the 24th, you can look forward to daily free downloads of knit and crochet patterns from some of your favorite designers like Coco Crochet Lee, A Crafty Concept, A Crocheted Simplicity, and so many more! All you have to do is track each day’s new patterns on Marly’s blog, click on the patterns you want most, then download them from the designer’s site. It’s that easy!

Meet the Queen Cowl

Cozy and simple, the Queen Cowl takes basic crochet construction and turns it into something beautiful. And the best part? The resulting cowl comes with a built in pocket! It’s perfect for cell phones, keys, even a sneaky snack! The Queen Cowl works up quickly in super bulky yarn and is a hit at craft shows and markets.

Making the Queen Cowl

YARN: The original Queen Cowl was designed for my craft show booth back when I did markets. This project needed to be speedy, so I make it with 2 skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. The super-bulky wool-blend yarn works up very quickly, and you can usually find it on sale this time of year.

HOOK: Use a 10mm crochet hook to for a Queen Cowl with warm stitches that are still flexible. I like to use this hook, which glides effortlessly when accompanied with the recommended yarn.

NOTIONS + EXTRAS: Aside from the hook and yarn, you’ll also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry need to help everything come together. If you want to jazz up your Queen Cowl, add a few buttons onto the side for a sophisticated faux-button closure. The bigger the buttons, the better!

Happy Holidays!

2022 has proven to be a whirlwind year. Not only did I move into my dream house, celebrate the 1 year anniversary of my book release, and finally crochet my first sweater, but I got to share all of those memories with YOU! Thank you for visiting my blog and keeping me encouraged. I’m so excited to see what 2023 brings.

With love, Toni L.
