If granny squares are my favorite crochet design, chevrons have to be a close second. The peaks and valleys of chevrons are so meditative and work up insanely fast. I designed and completed the Autumn Skies Afghan in just 4 days while recovering from a wicked cold. Thank goodness I had a healthy supply of tissues, yarn, and audiobooks!

I’ve had the idea to make a chevron throw blanket for a long time and finally committed. One of the hardest choices was choosing colors. A single color chevron blanket is just so classic, oozing with understated elegance. But a colorful one has the ability to stand out and tie a room together. I decided to throw caution to the wind and pulled SEVEN different colors of Lion Brand’s new Basic Stitch Premium for this design.

Basic Stitch Premium is a 100% acrylic yarn designed to be your new go-to yarn. It’s worsted weight (a crocheter’s dream!) and comes in 18 classic colors. They all blend really well together – I could have chosen any 7 colors from the Basic Stitch Premium line and they all would have been perfect for the Autumn Skies Afghan. Overall, I had a great experience using this yarn for the first time. Explore the full collection of Basic Stitch Premium on the Lion Brand website.

If you want to take the fuss out of starting your Autumn Skies Afghan, you’re in luck! Get the Autumn Skies Afghan as an all-in-one kit directly from Lion Brand! The Autumn Skies Afghan is a lightweight crochet throw blanket. Start with a few setup rows to establish the pattern, then breeze through row after row of double crochet stitches in a gentle wave pattern. The repeats are easy to remember and a joy to crochet. Sections of solid stitching are broken up by mesh, keeping the design playful and engaging.
