Two Beginner-Friendly Crochet Soap Savers
If you’ve worked your way through Crochet Academy, you made it! These soap savers are the final project in the curriculum and your chance to put those new skills to work. Choose the Tunisian Soap Saver to practice a foundation row, Tunisian knit stitch, return passes, a bind off and simple seaming. Prefer traditional crochet? The Easy Peasy Soap Saver practices half double crochet, chain spaces, joined and turned rounds, and using a stitch marker.
Both versions are beginner-friendly, even if you haven’t completed Crochet Academy. The Tunisian Soap Saver uses fingering-weight cotton for a light, flexible fabric, while the Easy Peasy Soap Saver pairs worsted-weight cotton and linen with an open stitch pattern. Both use a 4mm hook. For the Easy Peasy version, that’s smaller than you might expect with worsted-weight, which helps create a secure fabric around the soap.
Since these pouches will spend plenty of time around water, choose cotton or a cotton-forward blend. Gauge may vary, so keep your soap nearby and check the fit as you go.

Tunisian & Easy Peasy Soap Saver Details
Project Description
These beginner-friendly crochet soap savers are the quick project you didn’t know you needed. Work up both the Tunisian and Easy Peasy versions using small amounts of cotton yarn, then put them to work. Tuck one next to the tub for an elevated at-home spa moment, wrap a few up as thoughtful handmade gifts, or make a batch to donate to someone in need.
Materials
Yarn for the Tunisian Soap Saver
The Tunisian Soap Saver uses Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/4, a fingering-weight (#1) yarn made from 100% cotton [174 yards/50-gram skein]. The lightweight cotton keeps the finished fabric flexible while showing off those beautiful Tunisian stitches.
The sample uses just 30 yards, making this a great project for small amounts of leftover yarn. Colorways shown include 40, 125, 108, and 76.
Yarn for the Easy Peasy Soap Saver
The Easy Peasy Soap Saver uses Lion Brand Touch of Linen, a worsted-weight (#4) blend of 51% cotton and 49% linen [197 yards/100-gram skein]. The natural fibers add texture and structure while still creating an open fabric around the soap.
The sample uses only 19 yards, so this version is another excellent stashbuster. Colorways shown include Slate and Dijon.
Tools and Notions
- Tunisian: US G/6 (4mm Tunisian crochet hook), which can be a straight hook or a hook with a short cord; scissors, tapestry needle.
- Easy Peasy: US G/6 (4mm crochet hook), scissors, tapestry needle, locking stitch marker.
Finished Measurements
- Tunisian: 2.75” wide x 3.75” long when lying flat. Designed to fit soap that is 2 x 3 x 0.75 inches.
- Easy Peasy: 3” wide x 5” long when lying flat. Designed to fit soap that is 2 x 3.5 x 1 inches.
Gauge
Gauge may vary. Measure your soap saver against your soap at multiple points to ensure a good fit. Instructions for adjusting the size are included in the NOTES sections.

SPECIAL STITCHES
- Last Tunisian Stitch (Lts): Insert hook under BOTH vertical bars of the last stitch and pull up a loop.
- Return Pass (RetP): Chain one, (yarn over, pull through next 2 loops on hook) until 1 loop remains on the hook.
NOTE
- To adjust the width of your soap saver, adjust the number of starting chains, ensuring the result is an odd number. To adjust the length, add or remove rows.
Tunisian Soap Saver Pattern
Ch 27.
ROW 1: Pull up a lp in the back bump of the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across, RetP.
ROW 2: Yo, sk 1, (tks the next st, yo, sk 1) across row to last st, Lts, RetP.
Repeat Row 2 to 15 total rows.
BIND OFF
Tks each sp and st across row to last st, insert hook into last st as for Lts, yo, pull through st and lp on hook. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.
ASSEMBLY
Bring row ends together and use remaining tail to whip stitch ends together – do not fasten off. Fold soap saver so the seam is in the center of the back. Thread the end to the side of the soap saver. Whip stitch the bottom closed. Weave in all ends.
DRAWSTRING
Ch 61, sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Thread the drawstring through the last row of the soap saver and knot the ends.

- Starting chain 3 counts as the first half double crochet + 1 chain.
- To adjust the width of your soap saver, adjust the number of starting chains, ensuring the result is an even number. To adjust the length, add or remove rounds.
Easy Peasy Soap Saver Pattern
Ch 14. Mark the 2nd ch from the hook.
ROUND 1: Hdc in the 6th ch from the hook, (ch 1, sk 1, hdc 1) 3 times, ch 1, sk 1, (hdc 1, ch 1) 3 times in the next ch, working on the other side of the ch, sk 1, hdc in next st, (ch 1, sk 1, hdc 1) 4 times, ch 1, sl st in the marked st. Remove marker.
ROUND 2: Ch 3, mark the 2nd ch if needed, (hdc in next hdc, ch 1) 12 times, sl st in the 2nd ch of the tch (the marked ch), turn. Drop marker.
Rep Row 2 to 12 total rows. Fasten off after the last round.
Weave in all ends.
DRAWSTRING
Ch 51, sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Thread the drawstring through the last round of the soap saver and knot the ends.
