LoveCrafts (formerly LoveKnitting and LoveCrochet) has a house brand of luxurious yarns called The Yarn Collective. Curated by some of the biggest names in knitwear design, every skein in The Yarn Collective is a dream to work with.

A few times a year, they gather other amazing designers to showcase their yarns in special collections. I’m so honored to have not one, but TWO new patterns in the latest The Yarn Collective collection, Idle Wanderer – the Odyssey Wrap and the Promenade Shawl.

Inspired by paving your own way, the Idle Wanderer collection includes seven patterns of different weights and colors that still live cohesively together.

From mountain passes to cliff tops, the Idle Wanderer collection is a series of winsome accessories and garments inspired by wild and untamed landscapes. For those who love nothing better then wandering off the beaten track, each of these knitting and crochet projects is filled with subtle character and rich detail.

The Promenade Shawl | Challenge your crochet skills when you make the Promenade Shawl, a crescent shaped wrap with solid stitching, mesh, braiding, and a delicate and airy border. Pick your favorite colors in a fingering weight yarn and get ready to see magic happen. This half moon/ half circle yarn compliments the most formal of occasions and looks great in every color. Aside from being featured in this fantastic collection, my two patterns are the first crochet patterns introduced by The Yarn Collective. Past releases have only included knit patterns. Now, crocheters can get a taste of what these lovely yarns can do!

The first of my two designs is the Odyssey Wrap. Made with The Yarn Collective’s luscious Bloomsbury DK, every stitch took me on a journey. I still vividly remember working up this pattern, letting the random order of the accent colors lead me from start to finish.

The result is a rectangle extra-large wrap – over 80″ long! – with broad stripes of linen stitch chevrons. The finishing touch is an abundance of twisted fringe for maximum coziness and drama. Click here to get a copy of the Odyssey Wrap now!

Casual, yet bold, the Odyssey Wrap feels the most “me” of my two designs. I’m planning to stash dive and make another to wear all winter long. The scarf is dense but still flexible and drapes like a dream.

The Promenade Shawl was designed to add a touch of delicate whimsy to the everyday. I decided on the rich colors in the Fleurville 4 Ply fingering weight from The Yarn Collective’s library of yarns. The lightly plied yarn just glides off my hook.

Crocheters will get to explore different stitches and techniques as the Promenade Shawl pattern progresses. The beginning section establishes the crescent shape and highlights some contrasting stripes. A mesh section adds some levity to the solid stitches.

Further on, the camel stitch makes an appearance, adding a braided effect to the fabric. The finishing touch is a subtle border of spikes and airy lace. Click here to get a copy of the Promenade Shawl now!

I really enjoyed pushing myself out of my design comfort zone for this pattern. Usually, my designs are very audacious and literal, but the Promenade Shawl evokes a different emotion – it is much more subdued and puts me in the mindset of a proper little lady.

The Full Idle Wanderer Collection

There are three designers, including myself, in the Idle Wanderer pattern collection. Each of the seven designs takes the maker on a different adventure, exploring cables, shaping, color, and finishing techniques. I’m especially a fan of Irene Lin’s Braid Shawl. I mean, how could you not be?!

    Hi Toni
I love your videos they are so helpful for me. I can not read a pattern for the life of me and need some help getting the Odyssey wrap started. I can’t find one specific for the wrap. Can you recommend anything to get me started? Thanks for your help.

Hi Rosetta. I’m sorry to say that there is no tutorial video for the Odyssey wrap and I’m not sure of a video that would help, as this has such unique construction.

Hi Toni, I’m about to start your lovely odyssey shawl, just wound the skeins into balls 😩 I’m guessing these are us crochet terms? I’m in the uk. Also is there any other tutorial with this pattern at all. I’m sure I’ll be ok once I actually start but on reading the pattern it seems a bit complicated. Look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes
        Susan

Hi! The Odyssey Wrap is actually written in UK terms. I don’t have a tutorial video for it, but once you get started, things should click. It’s a pretty straightforward pattern once you get going.

    Hi Toni,

Have there been any updates to the Odyssey Wrap pattern? The pattern I purchased is not a linen stitch pattern.. it seems totally different from the pics. Thanks

    • Toni L.Toni L. says

Hi! This pattern was commissioned by a UK company, so the stitches are in UK terms. Where it says “dc” in the pattern, you’ll work an sc instead. That should make the pattern look like the photos.
