How to Become a Full-Time Crochet Pattern Designer [IG LIVE Replay with Ashleigh of Sewrella]

Fulltime designer

We all dream about that day we can say Bye-Bye to our day jobs and Hello to being a full-time creative entrepreneur. I still remember when I made the leap to full-time crochet pattern designer. October 24th, 2016 is a close second to my wedding day as the best day ever. But the time leading up to that decision was filled with anxiety and second guessing. Can I really make a go at this? Do I have a big enough community to supplement my lost income? Making the transition from your day job to your day dream can be scary, but it can be done.

I was so happy to have Ashleigh of the popular crochet pattern blog Sewrella as a special guest on my Instagram LIVE series. Ashleigh and I met during my infamous NYC trip earlier this year and kept in touch through direct messages, bouncing ideas off of each other and commiserating about maker life. Ashleigh’s feature was during an Ask Me Anything format where I invited the crochet community to pick our brains during the live stream.

After a bit of technical difficulties (who knew iPhones could overheat!), we got into a refreshing conversation about the challenges and joys of being creative entrepreneurs. This is a great discussion to listen to if you’ve been considering quitting your day job to live your day dream. Even I learned a few new things about the pattern writing process and how to avoid being a copycat.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Productivity tips for creative bloggers and designers.
  • What’s the deal with passive income and why should I care?
  • How to write your first crochet pattern.
  • And much, much more.

Are you counting down the days to becoming a full-time maker? Leave your questions and comments below about taking the leap. Be sure to join my Instagram LIVE chats every Tuesday at 7pm ET for handmade biz advice and insight.
