I’ve had the amazing opportunity to be an Ambassador for the new WeCrochet site, a crochet-centric sister site to KnitPicks. WeCrochet has so many lovely and affordable yarns. When asked to design a pattern this month, I jumped at the chance to try Fable Fur, a super bulky faux fur yarn that comes in five natural colors.
The result was the Mika Vest. Even as I was working up the original design, I became obsessed with the soft, fluffy texture of the fabric and how wonderful it felt on my skin. I was really thoughtful in adding some special touches, like the generous pockets, cozy hood, and some shaping on the armhole opening to give a comfortable fit. The finished vest is warm, girly, and perfect for the festive season.
Crocheting with faux fur yarn can be a little tricky. It’s easy to miss stitches and the texture of the fabric lends itself better to some stitches over others. I compiled 6 pro tips for crocheting with faux fur yarn that might be helpful for you. You can read the blog post here. In that post, I share how to pick the right hook and stitch for fur yarn, a strategy for finding your next stitch, and much more.
Are you ready to start making the Mika Vest now? This beginner-to-intermediate level crochet pattern is made from several panels sewn together, then the hood and pockets are added. Finish up by attaching nearly invisible pockets and a ribbon belt. Click here to get the Mika Vest pattern now.
Can you size this down to girls size 6 easily? I love this pattern!
Hi Sandy! I’m so glad you’re interested in this pattern. I don’t have adjustments for children’s sizes, but I’d love to see yours if you decide to modify it. Happy hooking!
