Beginner Tunisian Crochet Scarf Pattern
Tunisian crochet is gaining in popularity, with more and more yarn lovers giving the technique a try every day. Learning a new skill may seem daunting, but I can say from personal experience that Tunisian crochet is worth the effort. Learn the basics here!
The Bestie Scarf allows makers to indulge in the knit-look stitching of the Tunisian knit stitch. This stitch looks so much like knitting that I was even able to trick my knitting friends! Pair this fun stitch with the opulent texture of mohair and merino wool held together, and you have a recipe for a very fun crochet experience.
Friends Yarn from Hobbii
Nothing gets my creative ideas flowing quite like trying a new yarn. I’m so glad my friends at Hobbii introduced Friends, a private-label collection of yarns available in every color of the rainbow. The Friends collection features 7 different yarns, including 3 weights of cotton, a super soft sport-weight merino wool, a classic non-superwash DK weight wool, a fingering weight mercerized cotton, and a beautiful lace-weight mohair/silk blend. Each yarn comes in a range of colors that match the other yarns – for example, shade number 002 is the same creamy white across each of the yarn bases. Pretty, cool, right?
I gathered 10 shades of the Kid Silk mohair/silk blend and 10 corresponding shades of the luscious Extra Fine Merino for a decadent experience. To make the Bestie Scarf, hold one strand of merino with 2 strands of mohair. The result is a colorful, fluffy Tunisian crochet scarf that shields you from the bitter cold. I can’t wait to wear mine all winter.

YARN SUBSTITUTIONS: Looking to swap in different yarns for the Bestie Scarf? Try one of these options for a beautiful Tunisian crochet scarf.
You can swap out Hobbii’s Kid Silk for any other lace-weight mohair/silk blend. This yarn swap will be easy, as there are several mohair blends on the market. My first choice would be WeCrochet’s (KnitPick’s) Aloft Mohair. It’s one of the most economically priced options and comes in 18 gorgeous colors. You can also try DROPS Kid-Silk or Berroco Aerial.
Hobbii’s Extra Fine Merino can be substituted with any sport or DK weight merino wool. You can also use a wool blend, or non-superwash wool. I’d start with WeCrochet’s Galileo, an inviting blend of merino wool and bamboo. The silky texture will pair well with mohair. Also, consider Rico Essentials Merino DK or Valley Yarns Superwash Sport.

FINISHING
Step 1: Weave in all ends.
Step 2: Wet block to finished measurements. To wet block this scarf, create a lukewarm bath with a small amount of rinse-free wool soap. Allow to soak for 20 minutes. Lift the scarf from the bath and press out excess water – DO NOT WRING! Roll scarf in a towel and step on it to remove additional water. Lay the scarf face down on blocking boards and pin to finished dimensions. Allow to dry fully before unpinning.
The Bestie Scarf has to be one of the most fun patterns I’ve worked on in a long time. I’m planning to make my next one for my best friends so we can be twinning all winter long. Who will you make a Bestie Scarf for (after you make one for yourself, of course)?
