MATERIALS
- Worsted weight yarn – color B
- 6.5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
FINISHED SIZE
12″ square after border and blocking
STITCH MULTIPLE: The Cable Square does not have a set stitch multiple. To adjust width, add stitches between the cable and post stitch sections.
SPECIAL STITCH: Cable (cable) – sk next 2 sts, fptr 2, fptr each of the 2 skipped stitches, working in front of the stitches just made. Post stitches of the cable are worked around the sts 2 rows below.
PATTERN NOTE: Post stitches are worked around the sts 2 rows below.

INSTRUCTIONS
With B and 6.5mm hook, fhdc 32. Alternately, ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row, turn.
ROW 1 Ch 1, sc across row, turn.
ROW 2 (RS) Ch 1, hdc 2, fpdc 4, hdc 3, fpdc 2, hdc 3, fpdc 4, hdc 3, fpdc 2, hdc 3, fpdc 4, hdc 2, turn.
ROW 3 (WS) Ch 1, sc across row, turn.
ROW 4 Ch 1, hdc 2, (cable, hdc 3, fpdc 2, hdc 3) 2 times, cable, hdc 2, turn.
ROW 5 Ch 1, sc across row, turn.
Rep Row 2-5 8 more times, then repeat Row 2. The square should be about 11.5″. Do not fasten off – continue to Standard Border.
STANDARD BORDER
- Ensure the square faces right side up.
- Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the first edge of the square, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
- Single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the edge, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
- Repeat the last step for the remaining 2 sides. At the end of the round, join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of the round. Fasten off and block your finished square to 12″ x 12″.
