Mosaic Square Pattern

MATERIALS

  • Worsted weight yarn – colors A, B, C, and D
  • 6mm crochet hook
  • 6.5mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE

12″ square after border and blocking

STITCH MULTIPLE: The Mosaic pattern is worked over the chart below. Expand your Mosaic Square by working foundation single crochet in multiples of 7 + 4.

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • Stitches marked with an X are a double crochet worked in the skipped stitch 3 rows below.
  • Learn Foundation single crochet (fsc) here.

PATTERN NOTES

  • All rows start with 2 single crochet BEFORE the first pattern repeat, and end with 2 single crochet AFTER the last repeat.
  • Turn at the end of each row. Odd numbers are on the Right Side (RS), and even rows are on the Wrong Side (WS).
  • The mosaic pattern is worked from the chart below. Start in the bottom-right corner and work your way up – RS rows are read right-to-left; WS rows are worked left-to-right.

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1 With D, fsc 39. Begin chart at Row 1 (fsc row counts as Row 1). Complete Rows 1-2 with D, cc to C at the end of Row 2 (do not fasten off D). Alternate colors every 2 rows.

STEP 2 Continue through chart as follows:

  • Rows 1-14 – Work Chart Rows 1-14 with colors D & C. Fasten off D at the end of the last row.
  • Rows 15-28 – Work Chart Rows 15-28 with colors C & A. Fasten off C at the end of the last row.
  • Rows 29-42 – Work Chart Rows 1-14 with colors A & B. Fasten off A at the end of the last row.

STEP 3 Continue to Standard Border.

STANDARD BORDER

  • Change to 6.5mm crochet hook and ensure the square faces right side up.
  • Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the first edge of the square, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
  • Single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the edge, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
  • Repeat the last step for the remaining 2 sides. At the end of the round, join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of the round. Fasten off and block your finished square to 12″ x 12″.

    Hello, I purchased the TLC quilt kit.
    Question , to complete the Mosaic Square for the TLC crochet quilt do I need to adjust he chart? Is there a chart available that is already correct so I dont have to make one up?
