Lightweight Tunisian Crochet Lacy Sweater for Fall
The Savannah Cardi is the perfect Tunisian crochet lacy sweater for those in-between days when the weather can’t make up its mind. Lightweight and breezy, it’s ideal for transitional seasons, keeping you cozy without overheating. Beginner-friendly and approachable, this pattern is a fantastic first wearable for anyone ready to try Tunisian crochet beyond washcloths and scarves.
Styling your cardigan is a breeze—you can throw it over a tee and jeans for weekend brunch, pair it with a dress for a crisp autumn stroll, or layer it under a coat for a pumpkin patch adventure. With its versatile design and easy customization, the Savannah Cardi quickly becomes a go-to fall staple you’ll reach for again and again.

The Best Yarn for Your Favorite Crochet Cardigan
Since the moment I started the Bahama Blanket, I was completely smitten with Lion Brand’s Landscapes Breeze. This chainette yarn offers worsted-weight ease with soft, hand-painted variegated tones that create a delicate, painterly look—perfect for the Savannah Cardi. Its smooth, lightweight structure lets your hook glide through every stitch, making it a fantastic pick for first-time wearable projects.
The yarn drapes beautifully for layering in cooler fall or spring days, making this cardigan as versatile as it is stylish. For those sensitive to wool, swap in a cotton blend or anti-pilling acrylic and you’ll get the same gorgeous drape. Lion Brand’s Landscapes Renewed or Mandala Ombre would both make stunning alternatives for your Tunisian crochet lacy sweater.

SPECIAL STITCHES
- Last Tunisian Stitch (Lts): Insert hook under BOTH vertical bars of the last stitch and complete as for Tss.
- Return Pass (RetP): Ch 1, (yarn over, pull through the next 2 loops on hook) until 1 loop remains on hook.
PATTERN NOTES
- Construction Note: The cardigan is made by first making the Back panel and 2 Front panels. Sleeves are then made beginning at the cuff. The pieces are seamed together, and then ribbing is added to the bottom and front edges.
- Understanding Gauge: In my experience, gauge fluctuates a bit with this yarn +/- 1 inch in width. Look to achieve 8-10” of positive ease, and consider wet blocking your gauge swatch before you start to get a more accurate gauge.
- Practice the stitch: New to the Tunisian Arrowhead stitch? Use this tutorial video to practice the stitch and help make your gauge swatch.
- Right Side vs Wrong Side: Tunisian crochet panels are made with the right side of the work facing at all times. When it’s time for seaming, ensure all panels are seamed with the right side facing.

ASSEMBLY
- Lay the Back panel flat, RS facing up. Line up the corners of the Front panels with the corners of the Back. Using the available tails, whip stitch (tutorial) or mattress stitch (tutorial) the Front panels to the Back panel.
- Unfold the cardigan at the shoulders to lay flat. Line up the top edge of the Sleeves with the seam of the shoulder (locking stitch markers help!). Seam the Sleeves to the cardigan.
- (OPTIONAL) I strongly recommend wet or steam blocking your cardigan at this point. This will help immensely with the drape and to keep the seams flexible. Block to your desired dimensions. The original yarn for this project is very durable, so I pulled my fabric quite dramatically when blocking.
- Fold cardigan at the shoulders. Using a length of yarn, seam the side of the cardigan, starting at the cuffs and working toward the under arm, then down the body.
- Weave in all ends.
BOTTOM RIBBING
ROW 1: With 6mm hook, join with a sl st in the bottom corner stitch of the left Front panel. Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row, sl st in same st as the join AND the next st on the Front, turn. (8 sc)
ROW 2: Sk 2 sl sts, sc BLO in each st across row.

ROW 3: Ch 1, sc BLO in each st across row, sl st in the next 2 sts on bottom of cardigan.
Rep Rows 2-3 around the entire bottom of the cardigan, finishing at the bottom corner stitch of the right Front panel. Ribbing ends with a Row 2 repeat. DO NOT FASTEN OFF after the last row.
FRONT RIBBING
ROW 1: Rotate to work along Front opening. Continuing with 6mm hook, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row, sl st in same st as the join AND the next st on the Front, turn. (6 sc)
ROW 2: Sk 2 sl sts, sc BLO in each st across row.
ROW 3: Ch 1, sc BLO in each st across row, sl st in the next 2 sts on Front.
Rep Rows 2-3 around the entire front opening of cardigan, finishing at the bottom corner stitch of the left Front panel. Fasten off after the last row.
FINISHING
- Weave in all ends.
- Steam block once more, paying close attention to all seams and ribbing (do not over-stretch the ribbing).

MORE CROCHET FOR YOUR COZY WINTER WARDROBE:

Hi! The printed PDF calls for a 9mm Tunisian, but on lionbrand and on this blogpost it says 8mm. Which one is correct? Thank you!
Is the panel length on the chart with or without ribbing? Thank you!
With ribbing. All dimensions in the chart are final dimensions, with all finishings added.
Thank you so much!!
Ack! I ordered the kit from Iionbrand and got the suggested skeins for the size I wanted. But I am short. I think I was too loose with my stitches even though I did a swatch. I went to order more and the yarn is discontinued! :O Folks starting this project may want to order 1 more skein than you think if you are kinda a beginner in case this happens to you with the color you choose
This was such a fantastic project! It was my first full Tunisian crochet project. I used the Bay color because they were sold out of the colorway you used and it turned out beautifully. I got your new Hobbii/TLYC hooks for Christmas. This was a perfect first project on them. Thanks Toni!!
Oh my goodness, how wonderful! We are so happy you chose us for your first Tunisian crochet project, Heather. Yay for the TLYCxHobbii hooks! Happy stitching!
Hi Toni, I love your work. Every pattern I see is OUTSTANDING. God Bless you, You have a beautiful soul. Ana
