MATERIALS
- Worsted weight yarn – colors C and D
- 6.5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
FINISHED SIZE
12″ square after border and blocking
STITCH MULTIPLE: The Chevron Square does not have a set stitch multiple. To adjust width, use a larger or smaller crochet hook.
SPECIAL STITCHES
- Increase (inc) – 2dc in the same st.
- Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog) – (yarn over, pull up a loop in the next st, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 2 times, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
PATTERN NOTE: Starting ch-3 counts as the first double crochet, and the starting ch-4 counts as the first treble crochet.

INSTRUCTIONS
With D and 6.5mm hook, ch 29
ROW 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 2, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 4, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 2, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 2, turn. (28 sts)
ROW 2 Ch 3, sk st at base of ch and next st, dc 4, inc 2 times, dc 4, dc2tog 2 times, dc 4, inc 2 times, dc 4, sk 1, dc in last st, cc to C at end of row.
From here and throughout, change color every 2 rows. Carry color not in use up side of work.
ROWS 3-16 Ch 3, sk st at base of ch and next st, dc 4, inc 2 times, dc 4, dc2tog 2 times, dc 4, inc 2 times, dc 4, sk 1, dc in top of tch, turn.
ROW 17 With Color D, ch 4, sk st at base of ch, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 4, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 2, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 4, hdc 2, dc 2, tr in top of tch, turn. Fasten off C.
Proceed to Standard Border with D.
STANDARD BORDER
- Ensure the square faces right side up.
- Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the first edge of the square, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
- Single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the edge, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
- Repeat the last step for the remaining 2 sides. At the end of the round, join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of the round. Fasten off and block your finished square to 12″ x 12″.
