Stunning Summer 2025 Crochet Trends You’ll Fall in Love With

TLYC Summer Lookbook

As crafters, it’s easy to feel far away from the fashion industry. When it takes weeks or months to finish a single project, chasing trends that might be “out” before we finish can feel like a waste of time. It’s always better to make things you love—but that doesn’t mean we can’t draw inspiration and energy from what’s happening around us.

Crochet and knit have been showing up everywhere this summer—on runways, in retail, and across handmade spaces. This fresh wave of fiber art has sparked new energy in our community, with playful textures, bold colors, and eye-catching shapes that are inspiring makers everywhere.

Starting now, I’ll be sharing a seasonal crochet trend lookbook twice a year—one for warm weather, one for cold—each packed with the colors, yarns, and textures shaping what’s next. You’ll get real inspiration, not just pretty pictures: think project ideas you’ll actually want to make (and wear).

Bead and Embellishments

Texture, embellishment and attention to detail is everything this season. Designer Aaron Potts adorned simple knit tops with flat beads and tiny shells that add interest and create a tropical vibe. Here are three ways to add beads to crochet

Neo-Hippie Fringe

Fringe showed up on runways for Khaite, Moschino, and Chloe, layered thickly to create fur-like textures or added across the bottom of an edge for playful movement. Some projects with fringe include my Daydream Shawl and Lynn Fringe Vest. You can also add fringe to the edge of any project—either the tie-through kind or twisted fringe. With the Cowboy Carter tour happening, I expect to see a lot of fringe this season inspired by Queen B, too.

Sun-Kissed Lace

Lace made a big comeback this year, especially in the form of all-over crochet motifs and loose, boho-inspired layers. While traditionally seen as a more feminine detail, lace is showing up in men’s clothes, too, including pieces like these button-up tees from designer Edwin Goh. Floral lace and geometric lace both made appearances in the form of skirts, dresses, cover-ups, and crochet sets with shorts or mini skirts.

Gauzy & Glittering

Another way I’m seeing the lace trend pop up left and right? Mermaid and island-inspired mesh and gauzy, beach-ready layering pieces. These pieces call to mind fishing nets and drifting seaweeds. The Chloe SS 2025 collection by Chemena Kamali was full of sheer, delicate layers, or you can go bigger and bolder with pieces like my Issa Mesh Cardigan or this Zig Zag Mesh sweater. Crocheting in oceanic colors—from deep blues to seaweedy greens—really enhances the watery feel. Honestly, the finer and more intricate the netting, the more eye-catching—don’t be afraid to add some on-theme beads or charms for a truly “seaswept” statement look.

Sheer Seduction

Layering in general is a big trend this season, and I expect we’ll see a lot of barely-there, cobwebby lace in mohair for floaty, ethereal shawls. You know I love a summer shawl; just imagine it in shades of lemon yellow, lilac, and lavender. The more layers, the betterfrilly edges and flirty skirts seemed to walk down every runway this season.

Big Blooms

Large-scale florals with lots of three-dimensional texture are making a big impact. Why do less when you can do more? I can’t help but feel that Caroline from Happy Home Collective is partially responsible, due to her giant Embroidered Floral Granny Squares. Other projects catching my eye? These gorgeous botanical afghans were created by Marijtje ter Meer, a crocheter from the Netherlands. Can you imagine these squares subbed in for a Rose Cardigan?

Layered Stitches

Also popular? Interlocking and layered stitches with lots of texture. This is a fun way to play with the high-contrast colors this season, and can be found in patterns like my Joyful Afghan, pieces by designer Ana-Maria Babanica (Crochet Highway), and this tie side vest (a very trendy shape) video tutorial by Marina (Day Lan Hanh). The potential of playing with color always gets me reaching for my hooks!

Wavy, Baby.

The ’70s vibes are still holding on strong, with classic ripple, chevron, and scallop stitches appearing in high-contrast color pairings—another big trend this season. Darker tones show up to amplify the softness and delicacy of more traditionally seasonal colors: burgundy with baby blue, pale yellow and dark chocolate, candy pink and grass green. Play with lights and darks for pairings that feel nostalgic and a little preppy, in simple shapes like this Marietta top from Dora Ohrenstein.

Mistakes? No Problem.

Beginners, rejoice: “messy” projects are also in! Think schlumpy, sweatshirt-style sweaters, giant loops and dropped stitches. Turn a blind eye to your errors and keep on crafting to get the look from Cos and Gabriela Hearst’s seasonal collections.

High In Fiber

The natural textures of linen, leather, silk, and wool showed up in all shades across brands this year. While spring might be cool enough for some of us to wear lightweight felted wools and heavily textured pullovers, other crafters might be looking for lighter fibers. Sustainability and a move toward more natural materials is likely responsible for the appearance of more linen and linen-blends on the market, and shiny finishes from silk or synthetic materials add contrast to more matte textures. Glitter, glitz, and a little bit of shine is always a fun option, and with a strong trend toward metallics this year, crafters can add embellishment simply by choosing sparkling yarns.

Darker colors are a surprise for this summer. Dark chocolate, burgundy, and all tones of leather were matched with pale yellow, bright red, candy pink, and grass green on runways around the world. Play with lights and darks for high-contrast pairings. Neutrals of all levels create the base for many of the wilder looks, although you shouldn’t be afraid to go all-out in a single, high-impact color like tomato, olive, or bubblegum. Etro’s SS25 collection really showcases the color range seen across many shows this season, along with trends like fringe, netting, and flirty layers.

Make It Your Own

We’ve got so much to play with this seasonbold textures, unexpected color pairings, and patterns that really let our craft shine. And just because the weather’s shifting doesn’t mean your favorite pieces have to go into hiding. With the right yarns and a little layering magic, your summer makes can stretch well into fall. Think of this as your invitation to remix what you’ve already made and keep creating with the season in mind. The goal? Pieces that move with you—whatever the weather.

I’d love to know—what trends have you incorporated into your summer makes, or are excited to try this season? Drop a comment or share in The Yarn Hive so we can keep the inspiration flowing.

A lacy shrug with big, bold, variagitated colors would be amazing. Double two different lace weight yarns in two different colors for a tweed effect! Toni, you’ve got to try it!
