What is a Yarn Advent, anyway?
Do you remember getting a holiday advent from your grandparents? Each day from December 1st to Christmas Eve, you’d swing open a tiny door on your advent calendar to reveal a treat. A yarn advent is the same thing – open one box each day and find a little skein of yarn inside! As the days progress, the vision of the advent comes to life.
I’ve been obsessed with yarn advents for a few years – I can’t get enough of those tiny skeins! I was graciously gifted the Botanical Fade Advent from Hue Loco for the 2024 holiday. The advent included 24 20-gram mystery mini skeins in a flower-inspired dye style, PLUS a 100g full skein to match. I chose the DK weight version of the advent, though a fingering weight version was available also.

I opened the first advent box on December 1st and started making the Bahama Advent Wrap immediately. The rows of Tunisian crochet chevron were the perfect soothing project for the hectic holidays. I giggled with delight as each new skein of the advent brought more color and joy to my work in progress. By the last skein, I was absolutely smitten with the project and was craving a chance to make another one.

Is Tunisian Crochet Difficult?
I first fell in love with Tunisian crochet when I tried it at Vogue Knit Live in 2017. It’s a technique that lies at the crossroads of traditional crochet and knitting, incorporating elements of both crafts into one. I’ve been practicing ever since, as well as teaching others Tunisian crochet through my vast YouTube tutorial library and pattern collection.

My top advice for my students is this: if you can make a chain, you can Tunisian crochet. The Bahama Advent Wrap is the perfect beginner project. You’ll have the opportunity to relax into a repetitive stitch pattern with easy color changes and a satisfying finish, even with little to no experience. If you have DK weight mini skeins, scraps, or coveted skeins that need a project, the Bahama Advent Wrap could be just the project to help YOU fall in love with Tunisian crochet.

Is this the same pattern as the Bahama Wrap and blanket? Thanks Toni!
Hi, it’s Pamela again with same question. I also asked you on Instagram and I believe I DM’d you. I’ve bought many of your patterns, bought you book, bought u coffee. Please just answer my question. Is the Bahama advent wrap the same basic pattern as the shawl and blanket? Thank you. I’m trying to save $ so I don’t want to continue paying for the same pattern. Thx again Toni. 3rd time I’m asking.
Hi Toni
I recently gave two close friends Tunisian projects. Of course, the techniques were learned from your channel. You are a wonderful teacher.
Hi Pamela…I replicated this using the Bahama Wrap pattern, but in a DK weight, and it worked up just fine. Hope this helps.
