It has a learning curve, but it’s a gentle one, and the Overlook Wrap was designed to walk you right through it.

DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the fall foliage framing the Hudson Valley in autumn, the Overlook Wrap is the one accessory you’ll never leave the house without. This ample yet lightweight Tunisian crochet shawl pattern is your sign to finally give Tunisian crochet a try. Progress through four different stitch patterns to get a taste of this addictive technique.
MATERIALS
- Lion Brand Mandala, category 3 DK weight yarn. 2 skeins in the colorway “Warlock”.
- 6mm Tunisian crochet hook with a 24″ cord, or hook needed to obtain gauge (try this set!)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Locking stitch markers
- Garment steamer (like this one!)
- T-pins or Knit Blockers (like these ones!)
FINISHED SIZE
85″ wingspan x 22″ depth
GAUGE
6″ = 24 sts x 17 rows in Tunisian simple stitch, unblocked
ABBREVIATIONS
Ch = chain
Inc = increase
Lp(s) = loop(s)
Lts = Last Tunisian stitch
Rep = repeat
RetP = Return Pass
Sk = skip
St(s) = stitch(es)
Tks = Tunisian knit stitch
Trs = Tunisian reverse stitch
Tss = Tunisian simple stitch

SPECIAL STITCHES
- Increase (inc): Pull up a loop in the space before the next stitch. This is the same as a Tunisian full stitch.
- Last Tunisian Stitch (Lts): Insert hook under BOTH vertical bars of the last stitch and complete as for Tunisian Simple Stitch.
- Return Pass (RetP): Chain 1, (yarn over, pull through next 2 loops on hook) until 1 loop remains on the hook.
NOTES
- Construction: This Tunisian crochet shawl pattern begins with three stitches on the foundation row. Section 1 is worked in Tunisian simple stitch with increases at the end of every row. Progress through sections of three more stitch patterns, increasing every other row, until you reach the middle of the shawl. From there, the shawl is mirrored, working through the same stitch patterns in reverse order and ending with three stitches on the hook before the final bind off.
- Color Choices: The original sample is made with a color-changing cake yarn that complements the texture of this project. If you plan to supply your own yarn, consider tonal or solid yarns or color-shifting cakes. Avoid highly variegated yarns, as they will make the textured sections more difficult to see.

FOUNDATION ROW: Ch 3, pull up a lp in the back bump of the 2nd ch from the hook and the remaining ch, ch 1, (yo, pull through 2 lps) 2 times. (3 sts)

BIND OFF: Insert hook in the next st as for tss, yo, pull through both lps on hook, insert hook in last st as for Lts, yo, pull through all lps on hook. Fasten off.
Finishing
-Weave in all ends.
-Remove all markers.
-Steam block to final dimensions.
