MATERIALS

  • Worsted weight yarn – color D
  • 6mm crochet hook
  • 6.5mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE

12″ square after border and blocking

SPECIAL STITCH

  • Bobble: (Yarn over, pull up a loop in the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over, pull through 4 loops on hook, chain 1.

PATTERN NOTES

  • Feeling creative? Customize your square by creating a chart of 39 rows and 33 columns then fill it with your own design!
  • The Bobble Chart is read from the bottom-right corner. Odd rows are on the RS, and even rows are on the WS.
  • Bobbles are worked with the WS facing, and pop out on the RS.

INSTRUCTIONS

ROW 1 With D and 6mm hook, fsc 33. Alternately, ch 34, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row, turn.

ROWS 2-39 Complete remaining rows in the chart. Rows are worked as follows – Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc in each st across row, placing bobbles as shown in chart. Turn at the end of the row. White squares are single crochet stitches, and black squares are Bobbles.

When square is complete, DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Proceed to Standard Border.

STANDARD BORDER

  • Change to 6.5mm crochet hook and ensure the square faces right side up.
  • Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the first edge of the square, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
  • Single crochet 35 stitches evenly across the edge, placing increases and decreases where needed. At corner, ch 2 and rotate to work along the next edge.
  • Repeat the last step for the remaining 2 sides. At the end of the round, join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of the round. Fasten off and block your finished square to 12″ x 12″.
