What is the Crochet Academy CAL?
Crochet alongs (or CALs, for short) are one of my favorite things! The Crochet Academy CAL 2024 is a chance to use the skills we learned in Crochet Academy this year and apply them to fun and practical projects.
Crochet Academy is a magical time of year when current and aspiring crocheters from around the world take up their hooks to learn new skills. Since launching this event in 2021, we’ve had nearly 50,000 makers participate.
Beginning Monday, September 2nd, 2024, choose any current or past Crochet Academy project to make during the crochet along period. Share your projects on Instagram or inside the Yarn Hive Community for a chance to win prizes from our CAL sponsors.
Here’s a breakdown of important dates:
- Gathering Supplies, now through September 2nd, choose your project and gather your supplies. There are 15 full-sized projects to choose from, plus 4 additional starter projects that are also eligible for the CAL. Keep scrolling for a closer look at these projects.
- Weeks 1-4, September 2nd – 29th. Make your projects and share them on Instagram. To enter giveaways, you must tag @TLYarnCrafts in your photo (how to tag in photos) AND follow both @TLYarnCrafts and the week’s prize sponsor. You can also post in the Yarn Hive Community crochet-academy-cal channel to win prizes. There will be a new price each week.
- Class Photo, September 30th. I will choose a selection of photos for a fun collage and share it online. Check back to see if your WIP made it into the class photo!

Every year, I offer a pre-CAL project that’s meant to be quick and fun for beginners. For the first time ever, pre-CAL projects are eligible to win prizes during the Crochet Academy Crochet Along! If you’re short on time or looking to stash bust, try one of these lovely projects.

- Enter on Instagram – Post your work in progress (WIP) or completed project on Instagram and tag @TLYarnCrafts in your photo [here’s how to do that]. Then, follow @TLYarnCrafts and the prize sponsor for that week. Entries will only include posts for that week; the winner will be announced in stories the Sunday before the following week. Each giveaway is open internationally.
- Enter in the Yarn Hive Community – Post your WIP or completed project in the “crochet-academy-cal” channel. No further actions are necessary. Please limit your entries to three times per week. The winner will be announced in the CAL channel on the Sunday before the next week. Each giveaway is open internationally.
